As customers we have never had so much choice, we have never been able to access the information as we can today, with the information found we often have to decipher what we find, work out what is real and what is not.

Often, we seek advice and guidance from others, when it comes to buying a product, we seek proof that it works, with a service we want to know what others think to make sure that what you are paying for will meet your expectations.

That’s the key really, to meet customers’ expectations, if you can do this, with all aspects of your business then you have begun the first step on the pyramid of referral and reviews.

Strong businesses are built on great customers.

If you provide excellent service that is memorable and has done what you said it was going to do, customers will talk, they will want to share with friends and family. This being the upside, this pyramid can have the reverse effect too, if you provide a service that is below standard, this can also be memorable, for the wrong reasons.

Happy customers are the best form of advertising, it’s free and more powerful than any other marketing tool out there. Asking your customers to leave reviews on social media sites provides a level of trust and comfort for new customers who are browsing and searching for your services. Customers who are happy will gush and blow your trumpet, these GREAT customers are your power and can help influence others, even if they are not known to you.  These are the customers whose expectations you have met, gone above and beyond for.

Great customers will come back to you, again and again, these repeat customers become the backbone to a successful business and will bring a high level of comfort, knowing that your appointments will be taken, provides financial stability that we as humans crave, the basic of all needs, and income provides the basics of food, water, and shelter.

Building this pyramid is not just about what happens face to face, it’s all the processes around the services, communication is the most critical component. Today, we have high expectations on how fast we get a response, our general daily practices are busy and fast, if we want to buy something we don’t plan a shopping trip, we switch on a computer and find it online and within minutes are basket is full, we haven’t even put our shoes on!.  The same expectation is often seen within the service industries, we contact a trade and expect them to pop over quickly without little thought to their previous work commitments. The importance of communication here is vital, you must set the expectations so that both parties are on the same page from the begin of the relationship, if you don’t achieve this then at some point something will happen that will need fixing or worst case scenario the customer chooses a new trade.

Setting clear processes and sticking to them is the key to excellent customer service, making sure that everyone knows what they are, customers and employees, the old saying, “We must all be singing from the same hymn sheet”, comes to mind here.

We like to have structure and be clear on what is happening, change and confusion is not your friend when you are in business, dealing with customers, employees, or colleagues, the art of communication is key.  Thinking about how you communicate your messages, look at what your customers are saying when they provide reviews, what the main thing they are sharing with others.
