The different types of ovens and oven cleaning jobs
In this article we are going to look at the different types of ovens you can choose to clean within you your oven cleaning business
Lets start with domestic oven cleaning
This is the safest route to go when you are first starting out and you’ll soon understand why.
It will give you the opportunity to get a bit of experience within the oven cleaning industry, working with the equipment and chemicals you have, you can build up your speed whilst recognising the time it takes to clean an oven and in-turn supply accurate quotes for commercial ovens.
Domestic sector = more control over working hours
Domestic ovens are also the area where you’ll have more control over your working hours. Some people may be working on weekdays and require your services at the weekend.
Another thing about residential customers is that you will have time on your side. If you need to push the job past the couple of hours you scheduled, the customer will be happy with that, as they’ll know they are getting their oven super clean, but in a commercial kitchen you won’t afford that luxury. If the ovens are off, the kitchen is out of use.
“A more laid-back environment”
You can work to your own devices, and provided you aren’t causing a nuisance to the homeowner by eh…smoking in the kitchen, which you should NEVER do, then they’ll be more than happy for you to stay and see the job through to completion.
With kids and family pets to consider the safety is key, because you will be using chemicals, and not just when you’re on the job, but after you leave too. You must be sure the oven and the kitchen are safe for everyone. No spills, blades, or any rags left behind.
When you’re finished cleaning, the kitchen and oven should be ready to use. I would advise using only safe eco-friendly, bio-degradable chemicals, this is not only safer for your customer and your staff, but it is also a great unique selling point.
Customers and companies will love the fact you only use fume-less safe products in their house.
Commercial oven cleaning within restaurants and pubs etc
Commercial food businesses rely heavily on the ovens being operational to serve their customers. You will need to work outside the usual 9 to 5. If you’re struggling with time, they will be losing money, and that is not going to be good for your business.
When you are working in schools, hospitals, restaurants, and other areas of the hospitality industry, your tasks become much harder.
You may want to consider using stronger chemicals when cleaning commercial ovens.
Strong chemical cleaning solutions are required to have specific documentation. These are regulated by the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. (COSHH). The stronger the product the more precautions you should have in place to keep you and your customer safe.
Ovens in food establishments take a beating because they are used constantly. What a normal cooker at home does in a month, a commercial oven will do in a day! So, this makes the job take longer and you must work harder. I would visit the oven first and supply a quote based on the time you think it will take to clean.
